Teen Bedroom Decor Ideas

October 27th, 2011 Bed and Bath

When you're decorating a teenager's bedroom, it's important to keep in mind that his or her tastes may be very particular and not at all childish. You may want to work together as a team to come up with a design that's functional, creative and has everything your son or daughter needs. Here are a few ideas to help you along the way, inspired by HGTV and TLC.

1. Schoolwork is a major aspect of every teenager's life, so it's important to develop a space where your child can feel comfortable working on homework. A desk is practically essential.

2. Plenty of storage space is necessary for a teenager's many gadgets, hobbies, clothes and decorations. Keep it neat using stacks of colorful milk crates or plenty of shelves.

3. Consider painting the walls your son or daughter's favorite color. Not only is this a cheap, easy addition, but it will look contemporary. Keep in mind that you may want to choose a shade that's a bit lighter than their favorite shade, as dark walls close a room in.

4. Make sure there is plenty of good lighting in the room, as there will likely be a lot of studying and reading going on.

5. Supply plenty of closet organizers, as things might get messy in there otherwise. Use shelves, hangers, shoe containers and boxes to store items.

6. Consider buying a wall decal that will add a fun element to the room. Whether it's a tree, a chandelier or your son's favorite sports player, these stickers are easy to apply.

7. Adding a plant will increase the the quality of the air in the room, so put a few on the tops of dressers or near the window. Just make sure they're watered!
