July 9th, 2013 Cooking

If you love chocolate, you're not alone. This delectable concoction has been eaten by people for about 2,000 years, according to Smithsonian magazine. Originally, the Aztecs and other ancient civilizations treated it like an elixir. Today, chocolate is widely available to people around the world - it's no longer just a delicacy reserved for the rich and powerful. If you're a chocoholic, you already know that it can be an ideal ingredient in a large array of desserts, including chocolate raspberry cake. Here are the items you need to make a delicious chocolate raspberry cake and indulge in your favorite treat!

  • Nonstick spray
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cup raspberry jam
  • 1 can premade chocolate frosting

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Combine all of the dry ingredients in one bowl - flour, sugar, baking soda and cocoa powder. Mix the ingredients together until thoroughly combined.

3. Place the wet ingredients in a bowl - buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs and water. Whisk all of the ingredients together until smooth.

4. Spray two cake pans with nonstick spray.

5. Pour the wet and dry ingredients into one bowl, then mix together until combined to create a batter.

6. Pour the batter into each cake pan evenly, then place into the preheated oven. Allow the cake to bake for about 30 minutes.

7. Remove the finished cakes from the oven and allow them to cool completely for about one to two hours on a cooling rack.

8. Once the cake is at room temperature, spread the raspberry jam on top of one of the layers to serve as filling. Then, place the remaining cake layer on top.

9. Use a butter knife to add the frosting to the top of the cake.
