Tasty Mexican Chocolate Cake

If you've never had Mexican chocolate cake, now's the time to learn how to make it! This delightful recipe is a wonderful take on the traditional dessert, giving it a little bit of a kick and adding some other unique flavors to the mix in the process. If you have a potluck or dinner party coming up, try preparing this dessert and you might just wow your guests with how great you are in the kitchen. RealSimple has provided a quick recipe for Mexican chocolate cake that should only require about 20 minutes of hands-on time.

Cake Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or ground Mexican chili powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cold water
1/4 cup canola oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Chocolate glaze ingredients:
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
6 tablespoons water
10 small fresh strawberries

Start by preheating an oven to 350 degrees and spraying a cake pan with vegetable cooking spray. Next, combine all of the cake ingredients into a large mixing bowl and allow them to stir together until smooth. Pour into the pan and bake for about 30 minutes, or until you can place a toothpick in the cake and have it come out clean.

When the cake has cooled, whisk together the sugar, cocoa and water. Dip each strawberry into this glaze and set them aside. Pour the remaining glaze over the cake and tastefully arrange the strawberries on top. Set the entire thing to dry for about half an hour, and you're done!
