Four Celebrity Breast Cancer Survivors

September 28th, 2013 Inspirational

While celebrities are often put on a pedestal, they too have to face challenges that come with being human. One common disease that affects many people, regardless how much time they've spent in the limelight, is breast cancer. Here are four inspirational celebrities who not only survived breast cancer, but thrived after their diagnosis.

Christina Applegate

Christina Applegate, who's best known for her roles on the hit television show Married With Children and the blockbuster film Anchorman, battled breast cancer in the late 2000s. After receiving a clean bill of health, she went on to start Right Action for Women, a nonprofit that seeks to educate women about the risk of cancer and provides free screenings for people who can't afford it.

Betsey Johnson

According to the Washington Post, fashion designer Betsey Johnson overcame her battle with breast cancer more than a decade ago. For the past eleven years, Johnson has designed clothing emblazoned with the pink ribbon insignia. The proceeds go toward the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund as well as the Weill Cornell Breast Center of the Iris Cantor Women’s Health Center at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, which is where she received treatment.

Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, and according to the Washington Post, it was caught early and she survived with surgery and radiation. Since then she has gone on to start the Sheryl Crow Imaging Center, which works with the Los Angeles-based Pink Lotus Breast Center. Not only does Pink Lotus have the most advanced technology when it comes to screening and diagnostic imaging, but it also offers free services to women who don't have insurance.

Suzanne Somers

Suzanne Somers, best known for her role in the sitcom Three's Company, beat breast cancer years ago. She currently advocates for a holistic, non-invasive treatment, rather than chemotherapy.
