How To Save Money on Trendy Clothing

January 3rd, 2013 Personal Finance

There's an age-old conundrum that many of us have had a hard time negotiating - how can you keep up with the latest fashion trends without having to spend an arm and a leg? It seems like these two ideas simply can't come together. The hottest clothing must cost more money, right? Although that's certainly one way of staying up-to-date with fashion, it's by no means the only one. If you're willing to put time into the project, you can look your absolute best without having to break the bank. Here are a couple of tips to help.

1. Find inspiration. Don't let what's on the racks at the store tell you what's in style - head to your favorite bookstore and pick up a couple of fashion magazines. Flip through them and take note of any ensembles that jump out at you. If you don't mind receiving junk mail from time to time, you can even sign up for department store catalogues. Once you have your reading materials, circle or rip out the pages of any looks that strike your fancy. Now you can head to the store and find pieces that look similar to what you've seen - hopefully you can find a deal!

2. Sort your wardrobe. Frequently, feeling trendy and chic is more about your own state of mind than it is what's on your back. One way to keep your wardrobe fresh is simply by organizing it better. Keep out-of-season clothing in a separate closet. Every few months, incorporate these looks back into your fashion. This will help prevent your clothing from feeling stale and old, because it won't be staring back at you every single day.
