Dips for Game Day

Football season calls for plenty of tailgating and partying so you can cheer on your favorite team with friends and family. This season, try spicing up your usual appetizer menu with a few of these delicious dips, inspired by Southern Living and Saveur. After all, you can never have enough dip!

Buffalo Wing Dip

This tasty concoction is like biting into a buffalo wing dipped in blue cheese (minus the chicken)! Serve it with fried chicken, celery sticks or other fresh veggies.

Ingredients: 1 8-ounce package of softened cream cheese, cut into pieces 1/2 cup of fresh parsley 1/4 cup of chopped green onions 1/4 cup of mayonnaise 1/4 cup of sour cream 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar 1 minced garlic clove 1 teaspoon of hot sauce 1 teaspoon of lemon zest 1/2 teaspoon of coarsely ground pepper 1 4-ounce package of crumbled blue cheese 1 or 2 tablespoons of milk.

Directions: Put everything except for the milk and blue cheese into a blender and pulse four times. Transfer the mixture into a serving bowl, then stir in the blue cheese crumbles and the milk. Chill for an hour or two before serving.

Chili Queso Dip

A deliciously smooth dip with a hint of spice, sure to go great with any tortilla chip.

Ingredients: 1 10-ounce can of diced tomatoes and green chilis 2 tablespoons of lager-style beer 2 teaspoons of ground cumin 1 teaspoon of chili powder 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper 1 minced garlic clove 1 pound of diced Velveeta cheese 1⁄4 cup of grated Monterey Jack cheese 1⁄4 cup of sliced scallions 1⁄4 cup of chopped cilantro 1 seeded and chopped tomato 1 seeded and finely chopped jalapeno 1/2 of a lime.

Directions: In a pan, stir together the diced tomatoes and chilis, garlic, beer, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil at medium-high heat, then simmer on low heat until most of the liquid is gone. Next, add in the Velveeta and stir until it's melted. Put the mixture into a serving bowl and garnish with the Monterey Jack, tomatoes, scallions, cilantro and jalapenos. Squeeze the lime juice on top and you're ready to serve!

Baked Potato Dip

If you love a fully loaded baked potato, you and your guests are sure to enjoy this dip, which goes great with waffle fries or potato chips.

Ingredients: 1 package of fully cooked bacon slices 1 16-ounce container of sour cream 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese 1/3 cup of sliced chives 2 teaspoons of hot sauce.

Directions: Follow the directions on the bacon package to cook until they're crispy. Let them cool before crumbling them up and stirring them together with the sour cream, cheddar cheese, chives and hot sauce. Chill before serving and prepare to be delighted!


Nothing's tastier than homemade guacamole!

Ingredients: 3 avocados 1 lime 1 teaspoon of salt 1/2 cup of diced onion 3 tablespoons of fresh cilantro 2 diced tomatoes 1 teaspoon of minced garlic 1 pinch of cayenne pepper (if you like it spicy!).

Directions: Peel, pit and mash the avocados in a bowl. Squeeze the juice out of the lime, then mix together the rest of the ingredients. Chill for an hour before serving, or serve immediately if you have impatient guests who are eager to energize themselves for the big game!
